Girls youth softball began in Altamonte Springs in the mid-1990s in association with Babe Ruth Softball. The program boasts an impressive history sending teams to state and national tournaments with several World Series Championship appearances including two championships.
Today, Altamonte Springs Babe Ruth Softball is part of the Altamonte Fastpitch Academy (AFA). The AFA and its group of specialized instructors focus on developing young players and preparing them to compete at a higher level. Attention is given to the importance of fundamentals and providing the best sports experience possible.
The AFA continues to provide a spring and fall Babe Ruth softball program and delivers year-round travel team opportunities, training sessions and private instruction at Merrill Park, which features three lighted softball fields (with complete warmup areas) and lighted batting tunnels.
