English as a Second Language
The library offers conversational English classes for Spanish speakers. Classes are free. Registration is required for each four-week course.
Monday - Thursday | 8 - 9 a.m.
- Week 1 - July 6, 7, 8 (NO CLASS ON MONDAY, JULY 5)
- Week 2 - July 12, 13, 14, 15
- Week 3 - July 19, 20, 21, 22
- Week 4 - July 26, 27, 28, 29
The beginner level classes are designed to help people with little knowledge of English to improve their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Through small group practice, students are given the opportunity to improve their conversational skills. The classes also include instruction in the essentials of English grammar and help with pronunciation. Sessions are limited to 10 students.
Monday - Thursday | 9 - 10 a.m.
The intermediate classes are intended for students who are able to communicate in English, but who want to improve their English language skills. The goal of these classes is to help students learn the more difficult aspects of English usage such as phrasal verbs and idiomatic expressions. Emphasis is on increased listening comprehension and fluency. Sessions are limited to 10 students.

The City Library also offers access to Learning Express Library, an online service offering tutorials and practice tests for SAT, ACT, GED, GRE, GMAT, ASVAB and many others. The service is free to cardholders and can be accessed from any computer. Call or visit the library to set up your account.
