Citizen's Public Safety Academy
The Citizen’s Public Safety Academy is a free of charge 10-week program hosted by the Altamonte Springs Police Department. The academy provides citizens with an inside look at some of the basic functions of the police department and the training they receive. Participants receive an academy shirt, notebook, and applicable supplies needed to enjoy this experience.

The following topics are covered in the academy:
  • Overview of basic functions of patrol, traffic, investigations, etc.
  • K-9 demonstration
  • CPR training and certification
  • Children’s safety (child attendance is encouraged for this segment)
  • Defensive tactics
  • Firearms and simunitions (Saturday field trip to shooting range)

This 3.5-hour class meets in the evenings once a week and there is no charge. No experience necessary, just an interest in the Altamonte Springs Police Department.
