What is the 511 traffic service?

511 is the FDOT’s free traffic phone and Internet system. Drivers can call 511 from their cell or landline phone for up-to-the-minute information on traffic, accidents, road closures and severe weather on major roads in Central Florida.

Traffic cams, 511 tips and customizable routes

With the customizable routes feature, drivers can customize primary and back-up travel routes to numerous locations throughout the state. Drivers can create custom names, such as “Work” and “Back Up Work.” The 511 system uses simple Caller ID technology to recognize the caller and provides the option to hear traffic details for the programmed trips first. If there is an incident on one road, drivers can change routes before getting caught in congestion.
