Police K-9

The Citizen’s Public Safety Academy is a free 12-week program hosted by the Altamonte Springs Police Department. The academy provides citizens with an inside look at some of the basic functions of the police department and the training they receive. Participants receive an academy shirt, notebook and applicable supplies needed to enjoy this experience. Upon completion, students will receive a certificate and class photo.

The following topics are covered in the academy:

  • Overview of basic functions of patrol, traffic, investigations, etc.
  • K-9 demonstration
  • CPR training and certification
  • Defensive tactics
  • Firearms and simunitions (Saturday field trip to shooting range)

This three-hour class meets in the evenings once a week and there is no charge. No experience necessary, just an interest in the Altamonte Springs Police Department. Participants must be 18 years or older to take part in the course.
